End of the world?

Since yesterday, the massive quake  in Japan causing fires, landslides and a tsunami has been all over the news. The M8.9 earthquake was the largest recorded in Japan over the century. As of this writing, the disaster is still unfolding, and the damage has been extensive. People in Japan are still taking in the full scale of the catastrophe, so as the world. Analysts say that this may shake the world's third largest and richest economy, and humanitarians are worried about the safety of the people there.

I'm watching live CNN coverage of this breaking news right now; another tsunami passed Hawaii and has just reached California. Also, some countries near the Pacific are under watch list for possible aftershock tsunamis, including the Philippines. Just hours ago, there had been a warning or two here, but thankfully, the weather forecasting agency announced that we've gone past the predicted critical time. I just can't stop wondering: if a number of casualties have been recorded in Japan, a highly advanced and prepared country, how much more if this catastrophe were to hit our humble country? God forbid. I can't begin to think.

Could this calamity be what Luke 21:25-28 referred?

"There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying for fear as they await what menaces the world - for the powers of Heaven will be shaken."

This reminds me of the chilling tsunami alert sound that I heard on TV. It was just a replay, but it's making me panic. I'd probably just die there in disbelief, standing and unable to move an inch.

I pray for the people in Japan, especially my fellowmen, that may they be safe, stronger, and able to recover. This monumental disaster isn't something anyone can take lightly, and the least we can do to help is to pray.
